Hasbro has produced various generations of toys and games exclusively related to "Little Pony", referred to by collectors as Generation 1 to Generation 3. My Little Pony Tales, which was first broadcast in 1992, preceded the current television series. With the release of various premieres, the design was subsequently changed to the 3rd generation version.
When animator and writer Lauren Faust was hired by Lisa Licht at Hasbro Studios, Licht presented one of My Little Pony's animated works, My Little Pony: The Princess Promenade is shown to Faust as "completely very busy". Lizzie felt Faust's style was perfect for the collection and asked her to think of "some ideas that could be used in a new version of the collection". Faust sought to break through the preexisting "girl" nature of the Pony Polly series, and followed Hasbro's advice on the connotation of "education and information" and the toy series market to create deeper characters and bold Settings. Faust retired after Season 1, but remained with the team as a consultant producer. Jayson Thiessen, executive producer of the series, became executive producer after the second season.
